NNN

Community Service

Norwalk Neighbors and Newcomers is committed to helping our community through various charitable donations and volunteer opportunities for local non-profit organizations. We believe that as a group, we can succeed in making a difference to our neighbors in need that we might not be able to achieve individually. A few of our most popular annual activities include:

The JA Bowl-a-Thon

Junior Achievement of Southwest Connecticut (JASWCT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and inspiring young people to value free enterprise, business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives and prepare them for their future and ours. Each year, they run a Bowl-A-Thon to raise funds, and NNN has participated the last two years, with the number of participating bowlers growing each time. We've found it to be a great way to help out our community while enjoying a night out with old and new friends!

Person-to-Person Be a Santa

This is our most popular charity event which has seen overwhelming success year after year. Members get to choose from an abundance of various "gift wish tags," each containing a specific wish from a family in need. Most of the gifts are blankets, sheets, children’s clothing and shoes, toys, etc. - items that delight families in need during the holiday season, and will continue to make a difference in their lives in the following year.

The Carver Center Canned Goods Drive

The Carver Center assists low-income minority youths and are always in need of canned and non-perishable food donations. This past year, they also asked for children’s items such as coloring books, markers, games and arts and crafts. Members donations accrued throughout the month and culminated at our annual Halloween party. This drive allows us to include our children and teach them about charitable giving by include them in the purchase of low-priced food and craft items - things with which they can definitely associate!

The Norwalk Emergency Shelter Coat Drive

Always in need of used coats, hats, scarves, boots, gloves and blankets for adults and children, working with the Norwalk Emergency Shelter is an easy way to have a huge impact on others while at the same time cleaning out our closets! This annual tradition is an easy way for club members to keep others warm, while also warming our own hearts.

In addition to our annual events, we have supported the following organizations in recent years:

Our Community Service team is constantly looking for new ways to help out our community. If you are an organization in need of assistance, or if you are a current or potential member and feel we've overlooked an important area, please let us know!
